Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our study which is an academic research project about legibility situated at READSEARCH at Hasselt University and PXL-MAD School of Arts. The research is undertaken by PhD student Marta Guidotti under the supervision of Prof. Ann Bessemans and co-supervision of prof. Ann Dooms.
There are more than 500 languages in the world that use the same alphabet. Yet, each of these languages has a specific way of displaying text, resulting in a particular text structure. Through this research we aim to collect information about how language visual diversity affects the reading experience in terms of visual comfort.
If you are a fluent reader in your language, have no severe visual impairment, and are over 18 years old, you can participate in this research.
We recommend that you take the test on your PC, in a place where it is easy and normal for you to concentrate. This is probably sitting at your desk in a quiet room without any distractions (e.g. music, videos, people, phone...).
This project has been reviewed and approved by the Social-Societal Ethics Committee (SMEC) of Hasselt University. All data will remain anonymous. Participants may only take the test once.
The questionnaire you will answer will generate data useful for the research. These data will be used only for analysis purposes to carry out this research project. All data are collected for scientific purposes such as the study of languages within the reading experience. By proceeding with the test, you voluntarily agree to participate and consent to the analysis and management of the data that will be collected from the questionnaire. However, you are free to discontinue the test whenever you wish. In the questionnaire, no specific personal information is requested, such as name, and exact age. The data collection is completely anonymous. In other words, we do not ask you to submit any personal data at any time during the study.
